Fish Is Great
Nutrition. Fish is healthy low fat food, and oily fish can be a great source of Omega
3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Studies indicate that there is a definite
link between the consumption of fish and lower rate of heart disease.
Research is also beginning to indicate that the Omega 3 in oily fish provide
essential fatty acids that are necessary for the brain for learning, focus
and concentration. In addition, Omega 3 helps our skin and is a natural anti aging
nutrient. The consensus is out that fish is a highly beneficial food to add
to our diet. In fact ,The American Heart Association recommends at
least two, 3 ounce ( when cooked) servings of fish weekly. Salmon, herring
and trout are examples of oily fish that are high in Omega 3.

Some Fish Are Not Safe
To Eat. Fish
may contain medium to high levels of the toxic metal mercury due to
the runoff from agricultural toxins in our
environment. Mercury can be very toxic to our nervous systems, brain,
kidneys and developing fetus. The effects on the brain may not show up
initially but later may cause moodiness,
irritability, changes in vision and hearing, fatigue, depression, anxiety,
feelings of insecurity, tremors and memory
problems. Many people with high levels of mercury from dental fillings
or ingesting mercury or breathing in the fumes at the workplace live with
illness fatigue or nervous symptoms that they do not even realize may be being
caused by mercury exposure. Some fish are lower in toxic mercury than
others. click here for a chart that tells you which fish are high or low in

The
Difference Between
Farm Raised Fish and Wild Fish
Farm raised fish:
Fish that are farm
raised are man raised for the sole purpose of food production; they are plentiful and cost less
than wild caught fish , but according to research, because of
the sewage conditions they are raised in, the feed they are fed, and the
harmful dyes that are used to give them color, they contain
questionable amount of toxins that may be bad for your health. The following
article explains about the hazards of eating farm raised fish.

Wild Fish:
Some fish are caught in their
natural habitats. Although they live free and are not confined to swimming
in sewage like pools, our natural waters have become polluted also may contain heavy metals and
other pollutants that may also contaminate fish. Go to
www.gotmercury.org
to find out which fish have the highest and
lowest levels of mercury.
The bottom line: Is fish a
safe food to eat?
Their
are many different opinions and many different studies that indicate you
should be cautious about which fish you choose to eat and how frequently.
Fish itself is a healthy food. However, the high levels of toxins and heavy
metals in many fish create some risk in eating it.
Best choice:
Try to find fish like salmon that is caught wild from unpolluted waters.
Although more expensive, it may present less potential risk.
Stay away from
Tuna and swordfish
which are two fish that tend to be
highest in mercury content.
